Madrid in winter for tourists

May 14th, 2012

If you are a tourist and you coming from one of the so called warm countries then it is really necessary to make a research on the weather conditions in Madrid an temperatures during the winter. By the way as a beginning I should say that the city itself is really great and you will have lots of things to do and see and the best part is that it doesn’t matter whether summer or winter – Madrid’s atmosphere is always magical. As a matter of fact cold is really relative to where you are coming from. Personally I came from Apartment Miami and didn’t find it to be cold but if you come from Africa for example…well then you will find it quite freezing. There are chilly breezes. During the “coldest” days I feel ok with a leather jacket or just a cool sweater. Of course it might be different for you but as a whole don’t think it is freezing.
The sun also makes difference because during the winter the city heats up in the afternoon and the shiny sun can warm you. By the way have in mind that the early mornings and late evening are really cooler and if you intend to go out during these periods you’d better dress warmer. The snow is really rare but this doesn’t mean it won’t fall.

By the way if you are going to live there you will see that after 1-2 years spend in Madrid you will not feel the winter simply because compared to other places this can’t be called winter. This is a great place for people who hate cold. Personally I prefer to be warm and this is why like living in Madrid. As I mentioned above in the coldest days I go out with a sweater and leather jacket…this is if I’m on foot. If I’m using my car I can go out even with a sweater.

By the way I should give you an advice for your accommodation. There are lots of hotels in Madrid but if you intend to stay for a longer period…I mean two or three weeks it is better to rent an apartment. Don’t believe to people who tell you that the prices in Spain’s capital are really high especially when it comes to real estate. This is not true. As a matter of fact if you want you can find a perfect apartment for low price. Few years ago I compared prices and Madrid apartments were cheaper compared to Florence apartments and Valencia apartments. This is why I choose this city. Plus if you are willing to spend a little bit more money you may find an accommodation in a really nice neighborhood and your place will be full of amenities. I doubt that there is another big city all over the world that can offer you nice apartment on low price. Basically this is everything I can think of when it comes to Madrid in winter and accommodation.
